junk ensemble – FIVE WAYS TO DROWN

junk ensemble – FIVE WAYS TO DROWN

The living room strewn on the front garden for all to see…Five Ways to Drown looks into the interior of family life and exposes the sadness, the absurdity and the banality through vignettes of dance, theatre and installation. In this public display of the private, the choreography of everyday life becomes extraordinary.

junk ensemble was established by Megan and Jessica Kennedy in 2004, with a commitment to creating works of brave, entertaining and innovative dance theatre. Winners of the Culture Ireland Touring Award in 2008 and listed in both The Sunday Times and the Irish Times as a cultural highlight in 2011 for their production of Bird with Boy at Dublin’s Kilmainham Gaol, junk ensemble’s work has toured nationally and internationally.

“Five Ways to Drown is absorbing and affecting – and a fitting opener to this year’s 2010 Dublin Dance Festival.” The Irish Times

“Exploring how we might metaphorically drown — or play — in everyday life, five dancers aged 11 to 70, move in the ambiguous zone between waving, drowning, childhood memories and the unexpected joys of domestic DIY” The Irish Independent

“It’s rare to wish that something wasn’t over when the lights come up, and this was that very rare thing indeed”The Evening Herald
