Workshop on how to use animation for social change

The Galway One World Centre is hoping to organise a day-long workshop on how to use animation as a tool for social change at the end of August (Friday 31st , 2012 though could change to Thursday 30th).  The Workshop is aimed at educators and community activists and we envisage the workshop to cover the following: Introduction to the basic skills used in animation – brainstorming & researching ideas, developing storyboards, recording sounds & creating props, animation & editing, uploading to social media. Highlighting that Animation can:

  • give voice to communities
  • engage others through using narrative, moving images and mixed media
  • be adapted to different skills levels and target groups
  • help to communicate complex ideas
  • engage viewer on multiple levels

It is hoped that working in small groups, participants will create their own animated short movie, from developing the idea through storyboard and sound recording to filming and editing. At the end of the workshop, participants should have gone through the process of developing a short animated movie which will be recorded and distributed to all participants.

We are looking for a facilitator for this one day workshop – content can be adapted if necessary. If you are interested and available please get back to me by July 20th with a clear indication of your fee and any other costs as well as an outline of equipment needed if applicable. We will make a decision asap and communicate with all interested before the end of July. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us – and feel free to circulate this to others!
