Don’t miss ‘The Mai’ at the Town Hall Theatre
Final chance to see Mephistos production of ‘The Mai’ at the Town Hall Theatre. Don’t miss it! This is a play about an extended family of four generations of women and the one man who has married into them! Sensual, potent and bitterly funny, The Mai explores the destuctive effects their love affairs have on themselves and those around them. Robert left suddenly five years ago, leaving The Mai to bring up their four kids, but she can’t help surrendering to the passions of their tumultous marriage. It’s not long before The Mai and Robert’s joyful reunion runs into trouble. Their daughter Millie, who was 16 at the time of Robert’s return, is now a world-weary 30 year old who looks back and remembers her parents and her extended family – the ‘Connemara Click’ – The Mai’s meddling sisters, aunts and grandmother. Marina Carr is one of Ireland’s most popular and gifted modern playwrights whose work frequently includes instances of black humor and severe physical brutality. The Mai (1994), won Best New Play from the Dublin Theatre Festival. Mephisto have been based in Galway since 2006 and previous productions include The World’s Wife, Grenades and The Honey Spike. Directed by Róisin Stack, the cast includes Caroline Lynch, Liam O’Brien, Siobhan Donnellan, Helen Gregg, Grace Kiely, Mary McHugh and Frieda McGrath.
