Hugh Oram of RTE and The Irish Times at Charlie Byrne’s to launch Mary J. Murphy’s book

Mary J. Murphy’s book ‘Achill’s Eva O’Flaherty: Forgotten Island Heroine’ will be launched at Charlie Byrne’s bookshop by Hugh Oram of RTE and The Irish Times in Charlie Byrne’s bookshop on Friday, 14th September, at 6pm.

Born in Lisdonagh House in Caherlistrane in 1874 (a beautifully restored Georgian manor dating back to the 1720s), Eva O’Flaherty’s extraordinary life story is currently being filmed for a television documentary.

She was a prominent member of Galway’s 19th century landed aristocracy, was educated in Mount Anville and Alexandra colleges, was a well-connected milliner and intellectual in London and Paris in the 1900s ,and ran St Colman’s Knitting Industry on Achill Island for 50 years, after co-founding Scoil Acla there in 1910.
