The City Museum welcomes Culture Night audiences to “Galway; An Incomplete History”. Culture Night, 21 September, is Galway History Night in the City Museum. Twenty historians will each give a short illustrated talk on an aspect of life in Galway during past centuries.

Tom Kenny will talk about the painting shown here, which is of Woodquay in 1850. Others speakers will range widely – from Viking depredations to the ‘Galway Soviet,’ from the cells of Galway gaol and the labour ward of the Central Hospital to the literary salon of Mary Devenport O’Neill. The museum’s major exhibitions will also open late, including a retrospective of the great Breton artist Micheau–Vernez.
