Great courses upcoming at Galway Film Centre. These courses include a One Day Course on all you need to know about Working with Green Screen, a half day course on the RED Camera, a two day course on Introduction to  Sound Recording for TV or film as well as courses on Flash and In Design for Beginners. Working with Green Screen
This talk will cover the nuts and bolts of dealing with Green Screen footage in post-production. It will also give advice on best practice for shooting with Green Screen, as well as an overview of certain aspects of VFX. This talk would be suitable for film-makers who work with or plan to work with Green Screen.
About the Tutor: Diarmuid Kelly is Head of Post-Production at Element Post Production in Dublin. He is a graduate of communications from DCU, and has been working in the sector for 27 years. Diarmuid has worked on commercials, TV programmes, corporate video, digital media, short and feature films throughout his career. Element Post Production was established in 1998, with Diarmuid responsible both for creative and technical output. He finds the biggest challenge today is trying to keep abreast of new technologies developing almost daily, particularly in the area of acquisition and workflow.

RED-UP-2-DATE
This talk will be a comprehensive overview of the RED camera range, techniques & workflows. As the name suggests, it will aim to bring participants up to date on RED technology. It will be delivered by Brian Nolan, an instructor at FÁS Training (Tralee), in an easy to understand, lively manner. Brian was Technical Director on the first RED movie shot in Ireland in 2008 and the organizer of Screen Training Ireland’s RED workshops last year. He also attended REDucation in the UK in 2012 and will “attempt” to cover all the major topics that RED presented in 4 hours.
Date: Half day, Saturday, November 10th, (10.30am -2.30pm)

Introduction to Sound Recording
This 2 day practical course is an introduction to sound recording with an emphasis on recording for lifestyle TV, current affairs and documentary. It will also look at the requirements for recording for drama. Working in small groups, the class will do practical exercises in sound recording for different scenarios such as shooting outdoors, interview set ups and extreme conditions. It would be aimed at those who are new to sound recording and those with a little knowledge.
About the Tutor: Joe Dolan has worked as a freelance sound recordist for RTÉ, TG4, BBC, CH4, Granada TV, FR3 France, ZDF Germany, and most major European Networks. He has also worked with ABC and NBC (US) CBC Canada and Channel 7 Australia. Dramas that he worked on include Bloody Sunday (Dir: Paul Greengrass), which won a BAFTA and IFTA for best sound and The Clinic. Joe has worked on many documentaries including Asylum (Dir; Alan Gilsenan) and Patrick Kavanagh (Dir: Sé Merry Doyle).

Flash for Beginners
This practical course will introduce you to Adobe Flash which has many uses including creating simple graphic designs and complex animation sequences. This practical course is intended for artists, film-makers and designers who are new to Flash. It will look at getting started with Flash CS5, manipulating objects, identifying animation tools and creating an animation.
Date: 1 day. Thursday, Nov 22nd, 2012. (9.30am – 5pm)
Cost: €100 for members/€120 for non-members. Just 6 places. Members have access to machines afterwards to practice on.

InDesign for Beginners
You will utilize Adobe InDesign CS5 to create and deliver eye-catching printed documents. This course is intended for those who want to explore the basic tools and features of InDesign for creating professional page layout and designs.

For the past 10 years, Eric Dumas has been training in various subjects including applications for graphic design, illustration, desktop publishing, web design, databases and many more. In a friendly atmosphere, he shares what he learns working as a graphic and web designer outside of the class. He encourages attendees to raise questions, bring their own files and experience to the mix to ensure that all get the best day possible. He is an Adobe Certified Associate, Expert and Instructor.
